I’ll get right to it. I have no idea what the eff is going on in freelancing right now.

Actually, I kinda do. Clients’ budgets are FINALLY getting approved after a long, slow-moving winter and they have some money to get freelance work approved.

Suddenly, new freelance clients are coming out of the woodwork.

One of them? I started working on the relationship about 18 months ago before an editor left. I sent an email to the new editor around the winter holidays, but it got lost. She found me in her inbox recently and asked if I wanted to work on an assignment.

Another one? An alumni friend I stay in touch with needed copywriting help for an ongoing project.

One came to me via an RFP (request for proposal) process for a content agency platform I’ve been a part of for a few years. I submitted nearly a dozen proposals and got approved for one assignment.

One new client came from a contact I met last November at an event. I stayed in touch with the editor, sent samples this year, and her colleague sent over an assignment a few weeks another.

One big book project came from responding to a call for writers that I saw on a Facebook group.

During my week “off” when my kids were on spring break, I had another new editor reach out asking for help. She received my name from an editor I was in touch with in February.

I also had two other potential projects reach out that I wasn’t a fit for.

This is all very exciting and cool, and it makes me wonder things like “did Google FINALLY push my website up to the top of search pages?”

Since I’ve been at this for a long time, I track my “slow seasons” so I know it’s usually quiet for my content writing and copywriting business from mid-December to March.

This year, it was quiet through mid-April.

Not fun.

So…what does that mean for you?

Consistent marketing pays off. As does following up.

What does consistent marketing look like?

It’s how I make sure I’m checking off SOME marketing strategies and boxes even when I’m SUPER busy.

Like right now. I can’t take on more work BUT I’m still marketing for my fall calendar because often, that’s how long it’ll take for the work to show up.

I hope your clients are flooding you with work these days, too.

My website DianaKelly.com has been down on Tuesday and I’m really hoping it’s back up with the help of the GoDaddy pros by the time you get this email.

Just trying to “manage” all the things…work, appointments, kids’ activities & school needs, squeeze in some workouts and yet, keep up with a little bit of marketing as mentioned above.
