Who really owns your audience?

Being a Creator has never been easy, but unpredictable algorithms make connecting with your audience on social media harder than ever.

Enter beehiiv, the newsletter platform used to send this very email.

beehiiv frees you from the algorithms, giving you the tools to connect and create a more direct relationship with your followers.

Plus, with a network of premium advertisers and paid subscription options, you can tap into new revenue streams from day one.

For those of you in the U.S. whose state observes Daylight Saving Time and have hit the “fall back” Sunday, it can feel like a surprise hour in the day that we all could use.

(If you have little kids, sorry, you don’t necessarily get an extra hour of time. You likely have kids waking up at an earlier clock time and being “off” for the next few days. Yay.)

Why not use that extra hour to start thinking about your 2025 goals. It might seem early but, looking back at your year right now can give you some insights and expectations as to what you might want to do differently.

Need inspiration for freelance goal-setting tips? Here are seven dreams to write down and plan out so they can become a reality.

Goal #1: Earn That Dream Income

Want to hit six figures? Start with a number. Write it down—whether that’s $1,000 a month or a six-figure salary—and post it somewhere you’ll see often (even during nonworking hours).

Remind yourself why you’re here every time you see that goal. Then, break it down into weekly or monthly income targets so you know exactly what you’re aiming for.

Goal #2: Secure Steady Anchor Clients

Tired of one-off gigs that drain your time and energy? Me too!

Steady, monthly clients are where the fun is (and it’s easier to sleep at night). Check your inbox for past clients who might have work on tap.

They already know you, and those “warm leads” are often excited to collaborate again. Plus, ongoing work means more cash in less time—what’s not to love?

Goal #3: Take (Actual) Time Off

Freelancers deserve vacations too. To hit your income target and take time off, build it right into your annual goal.

Let’s say you want to earn $75,000 gross a year with two weeks off. That’s $1,500 gross per working week. Break it down, and schedule that time off. Chances are, you’ll come back with fresh energy and bigger ideas. (I always have a ton of business ideas that get jotted down in Notes apps or in notebooks on vacation.)

Goal #4: Add More Creativity to Your Work

Freelancing can be fulfilling when we make space for creativity. Set a goal to try new formats, write essays, or even explore video storytelling! Block time in your calendar to work on these “you” projects. I know the freelance hustle can make us push these aside, but a dedicated hour here and there keeps your creative fire alive.

Goal #5: Increase Your Hourly Rate

Ready to boost your rate? Start by saying goodbye to those low-paying gigs that are eating up your schedule. Then, set a target hourly rate, and start quoting projects accordingly.

Every client that says yes at your new rate gets you closer to that “work less, earn more” goal. It’s worth it!

Goal #6: Find a New, High-Paying Niche

Bored with your current niche? Think about your hobbies, interests, or even products you love. You might be surprised—there could be a lucrative niche waiting. For example, tech, smart products, or pet care niches are on the rise. And hey, tapping into a growing niche means more stability, too.

Goal #7: Work Smarter, Not Harder

Who doesn’t want to work fewer hours and make more money? It’s possible! Start by streamlining tasks, setting boundaries, and only accepting projects that align with your target rate. Working smarter is a skill worth mastering—it’s what takes your freelance career from “good” to unbelievably great.
