That’s how many people said they’ve either quit—or seriously considered quitting—their full-time job to go all-in on their side hustle, according to a new survey from FlexJobs and Remote.co.

The dream of “being your own boss” is one people have wistfully shared with me during cocktail hours and coffee meetups over the years. But “how do I do it?” they ask.

“Strategically,” suggests FlexJobs’ career coach Toni Frana, M.S. Specifically, with a business plan in place.

Yes, it sounds formal—and to be honest, I don’t know freelancers who’ve done it this way—but it’s wise.

It also gets freelancers thinking about the expenses that come along with freelancing, which can also be better understood by talking to freelancers as well.
