You know you should be showing up on LinkedIn, but when you’re having a busy week or feel stressed, knowing what to post on the platform can feel overwhelming.
That’s why I wrote this piece for Inc. on how to show up on LinkedIn if you only have a few minutes. Engaging regularly on the platform is important to help you show up in search results and it’s one of the small ways I stay top-of-mind with my network during those weeks when I’m slammed with freelance client work.
Here are a few strategies worth trying this week when you want to foster relationships but don’t have a lot of creative energy.
Check "My Network" for easy wins. LinkedIn literally builds the conversation starter for you. Job changes, birthdays, and work anniversaries are all right there waiting. Skip the lazy ‘like’ (they won’t see it anyway) and send a DM or drop a comment that goes beyond “Congrats!” instead.
Go back to your recent posts and reply to comments. You already did the hard part by posting, so don't ghost your own content and the audience that engaged. Replying to comments makes the algorithm happy and makes your network feel like you actually showed up.
Search a few industry keywords. I recommend having a few key terms to help you find new contacts and conversations in your niche. You could search a trend phrase, a conference to see who attended, or a hashtag like #marketing.
Leave a thoughtful comment on someone else's post. Some think LinkedIn is all about posting but the comments section of others’ posts is what can really drive new profile views. Say something specific, take a stance, add a thought. Your next client or collaborator could be reading that comment and deciding whether to follow you or better yet, hire you.
The best part? You can knock most of this out from your phone while waiting for coffee to brew or in the checkout line at the store.
Head over to Inc. for all six strategies and exactly how to apply these techniques within the freel LinkedIn app.
I help professionals write LinkedIn posts, engage with the right audiences on the platform, send strategic DMS, write better comments, and grow their audiences on the platform. See what’s included. 👉
