Happy Memorial Day weekend to my American friends and a sincere thank you to all those who serve for our country, have served, and those we’ve lost who were protecting our freedoms.

You've probably scrolled through your LinkedIn feed and seen posts from fellow freelancers, business owners, leaders in your industry you admire and even LinkedIn influencers posting, commenting, writing articles, and creating newsletters.

Maybe you’ve even posted once or twice on the platform and left a few thoughtful comments on LinkedIn that were beyond, “Congrats on the new role!”

That’s a great start, but it’s not enough if you want clients to come to you.

Here’s why:

Google’s search results are changing. If you’ve looked closely, AI-generated overviews on Google are increasingly pulling content from forums like Reddit, Quora, and yes, LinkedIn.

That means publishing original content on LinkedIn could help your posts rank higher in search results. This lets the search engines and those filling out questions in them that you could be among the top freelance experts in your niche.

Why freelancers should be posting long-form articles or newsletters on LinkedIn:

✅ You could show up in Google search results.
That blog post you wrote that’s sitting quietly on your website? Repurpose it as a LinkedIn article and boost its reach. I’ve had LinkedIn articles land on page one of Google for niche terms like “freelance branding,” without spending a dime on SEO. Do I feel some type of way that Google prefers my LinkedIn content to my blog on DianaKelly.com? Sure. But you have to play their games at times so why not write different content in both places to increase the chances my ideal clients will find me.

✅ You’ll stand out as a thought leader in your space.
Want to get hired as a marketing consultant, AI workflow strategist, pet freelance writer, senior care nursing writer, or sustainable travel writer? Publishing helpful, strategic content builds credibility. They learn more about you from the writing they see you post publicly — in the form of articles, posts, LinkedIn newsletter content, and even comments — than they might if you sent them a cold email.

✅ You can reach inboxes you don't even have access to.
When you turn your article into a LinkedIn newsletter, it can land directly in your subscriber’s inbox, even if they’re not on your email list. (Seriously, I have over 11,000 subscribers to my LinkedIn newsletter but only about 4,000 on this Beehiiv platform.) That’s a passive way to stay “top of mind” with former clients, colleagues, and potential customers who signed up to receive your LinkedIn newsletter.

So if you’re already writing blog posts or sharing expert tips with clients, why not give your ideas a new life—and a bigger audience—on LinkedIn?

Your future clients might just be searching for you right now.
